When my lover can count on my word, intimacy will flourish. Although we cannot make someone trust us, we can erode their trust every time we do not keep our word. A mistake does not erode our integrity. Rather it is the intentional decision to break one's word, followed by an unwillingness to own up to that choice, that compromises our efforts to create intimacy.
